22nd Annual Art Auction Saturday, August 30, 2008 ASGCC Celebrates its 25th Anniversary with a Gala Art Auction
The AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod (ASGCC) will be marking its 25th anniversary this summer. This is a momentous occasion for the only HIV/AIDS service agency on the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard. “Since I started working in the field of HIV services twenty years ago, awareness of these problems has gone down,” said Laura Thornton, the organization’s executive director. “But local service providers are seeing new cases of HIV infection every week. Additionally, the Center for Disease Control indicates that 25% of persons infected with HIV are unaware of the fact that they have this disease. That is why the ASGCC stresses the need to get tested, and provides free and confidential testing.”
With the rising number of cases and the shrinking government dollars, HIV/AIDS agencies are in a financial bind. That is why ASGCC is reaching out to the generous Cape and Islands community to assist us in raising necessary funds in a festive manner.
We are using this newsworthy observance of our 25th year of providing case management services, to announce our 22nd Annual Labor Day weekend Auction. We are hoping to create a festive and gala event which will feature the best art that the Cape offers. We will be featuring work of the highest caliber and encourage you to check out the start of our collection for the auction on our website www.asgcc.org
We have already received donations of original art work, and commitments of donations, from: Mark Adams, Cynthia Packard, David Jones, Pasquale Natale, Richard DeQuattro, Robert Longley, TJ Walton, Scott Powell, Pat DeGroot, Cherie Mittenthal, Jim Rann, Ed Crane, Harvey Dodd, Bonney Goldstein, Dan Rupe and Julie Heller’s Gallery.
We are now also putting out a call to artists interested in having their work featured in this highly acclaimed end-of-summer auction. We are particularly interested in donations from collections that feature Provincetown and the Cape’s best art. Of special interest to artists and galleries is the fact the ASGCC can offer up to a 50% commission for work sold during the auction. In addition, artists may set a minimum bid to assure that their work is raising maximum dollars for the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod.
Our auction will be held on Saturday, August 30 at the end of the Fishermen’s Wharf in the authentic fishermen’s work building. It is just steps away from parking on MacMillan Pier and can be recognized by the hauntingly beautiful portraits of the Portuguese fishermen’s wives hanging from the outer walls.
The Silent Auction and Cocktail Party (cash bar) will begin at 4:00 pm and will be followed immediately by the live auction at 5:30 pm. Entrance to the Gala Auction will be $25 per person, which covers both silent and live auction bidding.
