Head of Development

We are looking for a Head of Development who has the expertise to play a key role in the growth of the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod (ASGCC). Our mission is to save lives through prevention, education and life-sustaining services that address public health crises to build healthy communities across the Cape and Islands.

Currently located in Provincetown, Hyannis, Falmouth, Martha’s Vineyard – and with two Mobile Outreach Vans serving all of the Cape and Islands – ASGCC has been providing care and prevention services for people impacted by HIV/AIDS for nearly 40 years. Our services for people living with HIV include extensive case management, transportation assistance, access to food and nutrition services, housing assistance, and a wide range of other services to help people living with HIV lead healthy lives; additionally, ASGCC provides services for those at risk for HIV, including traditional HIV prevention (including STI screenings and preventative medications such as PrEP), as well as a robust Harm Reduction services program, including free Narcan distribution and syringe services.

As the leading provider of overdose prevention services in the region, we are at the forefront of the fight against the opioid epidemic on the Cape. We are deeply committed to serving people who experience stigma and discrimination, whether based on race, gender identity, sexual orientation/identity, socio-economic status, health status, and/or on one’s relationship to substances.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Head of Development’s primary responsibility is to plan, direct, and manage a comprehensive program for institutional advancement, including leading development, marketing, and communications activities on behalf of, and in collaboration with, the CEO, and building and sustaining relationships with donors, implementing partners, leaders, and decision makers throughout the community. The Head of Development is also responsible for developing a strategic plan to promote the growth and implementation of annual giving programs, capital campaigns, major gifts, planned giving and special events programs.

As the main contact and face of ASGCC’s development efforts, this position will plan and implement a development and fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization. Additionally, the Head of Development will oversee events, press and communications for the agency. Essential job functions include:

Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Must have at least five – and ideally ten years – of experience as a professional, multi-faceted fundraiser and marketer for a nonprofit organization.
• Must have demonstrable effectiveness in non-profit fundraising and program enhancement, including strategic planning, supervision, and program development.
• Must have experience working with multi-channel fundraising including major gifts, direct response, and special events.
• Must have proven success and expertise in development and management of current and planned gifts through knowledge of various methods of charitable giving.
• Must have development database experience and a demonstrated understanding of the importance of obtaining and maintaining reliable data, measuring results of fundraising activities, and providing useful and meaningful reports.
• Must have experience with organizational marketing and communications, including development and oversight of graphic design, press statements, ad campaigns, promotional collateral, merchandise, and other communication materials.
• Must have experience engaging with media and increasing organizational visibility through newspaper, magazine, television, radio, and online exposure.
• Must be able to generate enthusiasm and coordinate government, community & civic groups, businesses, and individuals to work together to benefit ASGCC.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours when needed, including evenings and weekends as the development calendar dictates.
• Must have strong knowledge of and experience with social media as a tool for fundraising and marketing.

In addition, successful candidates will:
• Be familiar with public health priorities that are ASGCC’s focus (including HIV, sexual health, harm reduction, and behavioral health), knowledgeable about the populations we serve, and experienced in fundraising for these issues and communities.
• Have demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
• Have excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to quickly assess a situation and come to a solution.
• Be able to work on a team as well as independently. Have excellent written and oral communication skills. Have excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organizational skills.
• Be able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events and manage competing demands. Must be able to change approach or method to best fit the situation. Must be able to inspire others to be adaptable to change. A calm demeanor and sense of humor would be assets.
• Be able to speak clearly, appropriately, and effectively with diverse groups of people.
